TEAK DECKS
Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ)
On this page you will find answers to the current and most frequently asked questions about our teak decks
How much does a teak deck cost?
We offer our vacuum-bonded teak decks at a fixed price. Depending on the project size and deck thickness, a teak deck costs approx. 1250 € - 1600 € net per square meter. This price includes the finished teak deck including all materials, measurement, layout, manufacturing and vacuum bonding. Not included in the price are possible demolition of the old teak deck, preparation of the boat' superstructure, disassembly and assembly of the deck equipment as well as travel and accommodation costs. You will find out the exact composition of the costs in an individual offer.
Where does our teak wood come from?
Following the military coup in Myanmar in 2021, Burmese teak from Myanmar was sanctioned and has been banned from import into the EU. We have a stock of genuine Burmese teak that was imported and stored before the import restrictions came into force and can therefore still offer teak decks made from genuine Burmese teak.
This naturally and slowly grown wood is characterized by its hardness, durability, and long service life. We do not use plantation teak or plastics for our teak decks as standard. The life expectancy of a teak deck made of Burmese teak is approximately twice as long as that of decks made of plantation teak.
Since wooden decks made in modern construction methods are the noblest and best product for yacht deckings, we are simultaneously researching alternative woods and sustainable solutions in order to be able to offer real wooden decks in the long term.
What's the thickness of a teak deck?

We manufacture our teak decks in standard thicknesses of 8 or 10 mm, but can also produce thinner or thicker versions on customer request. Our teak decks are not screwed down, but vacuum-bonded to the yacht. By not using rebates and screws but instead our construction method with full-bottom seams, the entire thickness of the deck can be used and worn down. Our 10 mm thick teak deck therefore has the same thickness of wear layer as a traditionally screwed 16 mm thick teak deck. Further advantages include a longer service life, completely waterproof decks, and weight savings.
How much does a teak deck weigh?
A teak deck built using our weight-saving construction method has a weight of approx. 8 kg/m² at a thickness of 10 mm.
What's the life expectancy of a teak deck?
A teak deck in 8 mm thickness has, depending on the care it receives, a service life of about 20 years, in 10 mm thickness about 25 years. Experience shows that teak decks can even live up to 50 years.
Should I oil my teak deck?
Except for visual purposes, it is not necessary to oil a teak deck. Teak wood is naturally very oily and robust. The silver-gray patina that forms from exposure to sunlight and rain naturally protects the wood.
Maintenance and cleaning of a teak deck
We recommend cleaning the teak deck regularly with fresh water and lightly sanding it every 4 - 5 years, so that the golden color of the wood reappears only slightly in some places. We recommend sanding with an orbital sander with grit 80 or 100. The joint compound we use does not stain and can be sanded along without any problems.
Spot dirt and stains can be removed with a sanding fleece (e.g. Scotch-Brite or with the rough side of a pot sponge) and some fresh water, by hand in circular movements or across the grain. Please never scrub your teak deck along the grain with a brush, this will cause washout and grooving of the wood.
An annual application of algae protection is recommended if you are traveling in colder and wetter areas such as the Baltic Sea or the North Sea.
Since we install our teak decks by vacuum bonding, they are absolutely maintenance-free: you will never have to change plugs, drill out screws or mill joints deeper.
How can I tell if my old teak deck needs to be replaced?
Important criteria for determining the condition of a teak deck are its age, construction, and overall condition. It is almost impossible to make a remote diagnosis of a teak deck. Especially with older and bolted teak decks, it is often impossible to tell from pictures alone whether it is still in good condition or whether moisture may have already accumulated in the deck structure underneath. As these are often case-specific issues, we recommend seeking expert advice and having the condition of your deck professionally assessed.
How long does the production and installation of a teak deck take?
The production of a teak deck for a 60 ft yacht takes approx. 4 weeks and takes place entirely in our production facility. The subsequent installation on board takes approx. 1 – 2 weeks, including demolition of the old deck approx. 2 – 3 weeks.
Does the boat need to be indoors for a teak deck installation?
Preferably, yes. For the bonding it is important to install the teak deck in not too much heat, cold or humidity. In the best case, you or we together can find a shipyard hall where we can accommodate your boat for the short assembly period and install your new teak deck there. If this is not possible, we will consult with marinas in your area to see if installation on the dock would be possible and can erect a tent made of PE shrink wrap for protection against the weather during installation.
We have an assembly site in the south of France and a cooperation with a shipyard in Slovenia. If your boat is close by, we can offer you indoor space here.
For which boat sizes do we manufacture teak decks?
We usually manufacture teak decks for yachts between 40 and 100 ft. For smaller projects, we offer to send you your new teak deck in ready-grouted teak deck panels for self-installation. Find out more here:
Mobilerbootsbau works all over Europe
Our teak decks and wooden components for the yachting industry are manufactured centrally at our production facility north of Berlin and then installed throughout Europe.
In order to take digital, millimeter-precise measurements of the yacht deck areas, we first come on board for a few hours with a digital measuring device. We then produce the complete teak deck at our facility. For the subsequent installation, we travel to your boat with the finished teak deck and all required tools, anywhere in Europe.
From Norway to the Mediterranean to the Canary Islands, we install our teak decks on yachts in all European countries.
